Essential elements of art in photography can make the difference between a snap shot and a work of art. This can be accomplished when adding two or more of the elements of art. The elements of art are leading lines, color, shape, form, texture and space. In this post we will be focusing on leading lines, color, texture and space.

Creating the essential elements of art in photography

To start, leading lines are lines in the images that lead the eye or the viewer throughout the image. They can also lead the eye of viewer to a specific point in the image. Leading lines can be straight, horizontal, vertical, wavy, diagonal, thin or thick. Other aspects to consider are how leading lines make the viewer feel. For example, a horizontal line gives a sense of rest. While vertical lines give a sense of reaching up or down. Curvy lines convey a soft or pleasing feel.

Next, color, is the lights reflection from the subject within the image. Three aspects to consider with color, hue(red, green and blue), value(how light or dark), and intensity(how dull or bright). Color also refers to the warmth or the cool feeing of the image. Darker colors give a sense of mystery or drama. Light colors often refers to the light on the subject.

Texture is a quality that can be felt or seen like a rough or smooth surface.
